Climate activists from the action group Extinction Rebellion have organized a protest this Sunday in front of Rembrandt’s painting ‘The Night Watch’, in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, before which they unfurled a banner with the message “Rise faster than the sea”, although the painting was not damaged.
A group of 10 young activists began to sing in front of the famous work, which is protected behind a barrier, as museum security officials looked on before leading them out of the building.
The activists said on Twitter that the participants in the action were between the ages of 15 and 22 and had the support of their parents and grandparents, some of whom were present during the action.
“The message is clear: there is no art on a submerged planet, break ties with fossil companies like KLM,” they tweeted in reference to the international airline.
‘The Night Watch’ is the most famous painting by Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669).
