Gunmen shoot dead the governor of the Philippine province of Negros Oriental and five others

March 4 (EUROPA PRESS) –

A group of armed men shot dead the governor of the Philippine province of Negros Oriental, Roel Degamo, and five other people on Saturday, the country’s president, Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr., announced.

Degamo was meeting with some of his constituents in the town of Pamplona when a group of armed men arrived at the scene in two trucks and opened fire on him, several bodyguards and the rest of those gathered, official sources have explained to Philippine television PTV.

Degamo’s widow and also mayor of the city, Janice Degamo, has confirmed the death of the governor in a video posted on her Facebook account and collected by the Rappler portal.

“Governor Degamo did not deserve to die like this. He was serving his constituents. He was serving his constituents on a Saturday together with the department heads. There were five others who died with him,” lamented the mayoress.

“The investigation into this murder is advancing rapidly,” the Philippine president said on his Twitter account. “We have received a lot of information and now we have a clear direction on how to proceed to bring those responsible for this murder to justice,” he added.
