March 3 (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least twelve people have died this Friday due to an explosion in a pipeline in the Nigerian state of Rivers, located in the south of the country, when several of them were trying to extract oil irregularly, as confirmed by the authorities.
The Rivers Police spokeswoman, Grace Iringe-Koko, has indicated that the event took place in Rumuekpe and has detailed that the twelve victims have been burned by the explosion, so their identities are unknown, as she has collected the Nigerian newspaper ‘Vanguard’.
Iringe-Koko has stated that five vehicles and three three-wheeled vehicles have been destroyed by the violence of the explosion and has reminded the population that they should not try to extract oil irregularly to avoid this type of event.
Several hundred people have been killed in recent years in Nigeria by explosions caused by attempted theft of fuel from pipelines and tankers.
