At least fourteen dead after a fire in a fuel depot in North Jakarta, Indonesia

At least fourteen people have died and another 40 have been injured this Friday as a result of a fire in a fuel depot owned by the state company Pertamina in north Jakarta, according to the latest balance of emergency teams in the Indonesian capital. .

The fire has caused panic among the residents who lived around these facilities located in the Plumpang district. The fire, which has not yet been extinguished, would have occurred as a result of the explosion of a pipeline, according to the company, reports the Indonesian newspaper ‘Kompas’

The Firemen have detailed that the flames have spread to some of the nearby houses, for which the neighbors have had to be evicted, although many of them had already begun to flee.

The fuel tank has a capacity of more than 300,000 kiloliters, according to the Ministry of Energy. It is not the first time that the facilities have suffered a fire, as in January 2009, another one occurred that affected several tanks that, according to what they contained, some 2 million liters of fuel.
