Colombia seeks a solution to 460,000 tickets sold by Viva

The Colombian government seeks solutions for passengers who purchased more than 460,000 tickets and reservations that the airline Viva Air sold for 2023 before suddenly stop operations by a financial crisis.

Transportation Minister Guillermo Reyes said in an official statement on Wednesday that his government’s priority is to protect the rights of users and the more than 1,700 direct workers of Viva Air. For March, he added, there are 230,000 tickets in the hands of passengers.

The low-cost airline Viva Airsuspended its operations in Colombia and Peru since Monday night arguing an unsustainable financial crisis and in the middle of an integration process with Avianca -Colombia’s main airline- which has not been approved by the Colombian Aeronautics and according to Viva would give it financial muscle to continue operating.

Francisco Lalinde, interim president of Viva Air, assured the local Blue Radio that the airline is going to enter a liquidation process and that it does not have the capacity to return the money to the passengers. He explained that the contingency plan is in charge of the Civil Aeronautics and other airlines that are giving seats on their flights for affected passengers.

The Superintendency of Transportation, the authority in charge of monitoring the sector, notified on Wednesday the opening of an administrative investigation and filing of charges against Viva Air for allegedly not guaranteeing the provision of the service by not accompanying the suspension of its operations with “complete, truthful” information. , timely and accurate to each of the users”.
