CAF and ECLAC invite to dialogue on fiscal decentralization and cooperation for gender equality in the region

Authorities and specialists will participate on Monday, March 6, 2023 in two high-level events organized by CAF -development bank of Latin America- and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), in which the fiscal challenges derived from decentralization processes in the region and the role of public policies and cooperation for gender equality, among other topics.

Both will take place in person at ECLAC headquarters in Santiago, as part of the activities of the CLXXVII meeting of the CAF Board of Directors that will take place from March 6 to 9 in Chile.

First of all, the High-level meeting: Public policies and cooperation for gender equality It will be held between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. in Chile (GMT-3), as part of the commemoration of March 8, International Women’s Day.

The opening remarks will be given by José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, Executive Secretary of ECLAC; Sergio Díaz-Granados, Executive President of CAF-development bank of Latin America-; and Luz Vidal Huiriqueo, Undersecretary for Women and Gender Equity of Chile.

Through this high-level dialogue, CAF and ECLAC seek to create a space to share experiences, ideas and proposals to respond to pressing challenges related to the incorporation of the gender perspective in the design and implementation of public policies and regional cooperation.

On the same Monday afternoon, between 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., the ECLAC-CAF Conference: Rethinking decentralization. Challenges of the 2030 Agendawhich aims to contribute to the debate on how to improve the capacities of subnational governments (tax collection, spending execution, etc.) and how to design a more efficient organization of relations between different levels of government, which allows promoting local development , innovation and the consequent generation of opportunities.

After the opening remarks by José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs and Sergio Díaz-Granados, both representatives will sign a Memorandum of Understanding between CAF and ECLAC. Then, the participation of Nicolás Grau, Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism of Chile; José Antonio Ocampo, Minister of Finance and Public Credit of Colombia; and Renata Vargas Amaral, Secretary of International Affairs and Development, Ministry of Planning and Budget of Brazil, among other representatives.

Registration is mandatory to attend these two events, which will be held at ECLAC headquarters in Santiago, Chile (Av. Dag Hammarsköld 3477, Vitacura, Santiago. Raúl Prebisch Room). Journalists must carry their media credential or identity card to gain access to the premises.
