The United States Committee on Foreign Affairs has voted in favor of a new law called DATA (Deterring America’s Technological Adversaries) which would allow, among other things, the banning of apps like TikTok based on the possibility that it is a risk to national security, as it has been insinuating for a long time by active and passive.
As we read in TechCrunch, this law still has several procedures to go through, including the Senate, before it can reach Joe Biden himself, president of the United States. Notably Biden has mentioned that he is not sure lawmakers will ban TikTokbut the government has already taken some precautions in this direction.
Be that as it may, there are many who have doubts regarding the application, Well, the director of the FBI already declared about the concerns that TikTok generates for himin addition to the fact that its mother company is controlled by the Chinese government, with the risks that this entails at the security level.
Evidently, TikTok is against any action that goes in this directionexplaining through a spokesman that this will have a negative impact on the freedom of expression of North American citizens.
