This week, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong will travel to Malaysia and India to boost the Australian bilateral relations and promote Australia’s interests in a peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
“My visit to Malaysia will reaffirm the priorities we share within the framework of our Global Strategic Partnership,” said the foreign minister.
In addition, he stated that he hopes to hold introductory meetings with members of the new Malaysian government, including the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Finance.
“These meetings will focus on advancing our important trade and economic ties, regional defense and security cooperation, and the close ties between our peoples,” Wong continued.
Australia is committed to working with Malaysia to support ASEAN’s vital contribution to regional peace and security.

This will be Penny Wong’s first visit to India as External Affairs Minister. She hopes to meet her counterparts at the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi.

“I look forward to working with my counterparts on how we can address contemporary international challenges, including strengthening the multilateral system, food and energy security, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief,” said the Australian diplomat.
While in New Delhi, he will also attend the Raisina Dialogue 2023, India’s premier forum for addressing the most challenging issues facing the regional and global community.

This year is a significant milestone in Australia’s bilateral relationship with India, with numerous high-level ministerial visits between the two countries.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Trade and Tourism Minister Don Farrell and Resources Minister Madeleine King will travel to India over the next month, and later this year Australia expects to host Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, when he attends the Quad leaders meeting.
