UACh regrets the death of Mr. Andrew Ford

Communications Department UACh.- The Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities regrets the sensitive death of Mr. Andrew Stephen Ford, who contributed significantly to the training of students in the English Language Communication Pedagogy career and the Language Center.

The Dean, Dr. Mauricio Mancilla, pointed out that “the tragic death of Prof. Andy Ford has shaken the academic community of the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities. For many years he worked teaching some core courses for the first years of the English Language Communication Pedagogy career and also subjects of English as a foreign language at the Language Center for students of various careers at the University ”.

He also indicated that “with his work he earned the respect and recognition of students, officials and teachers. We are very sorry for his departure. I was lucky to have talked many times with him, getting to know his affection for the city and our university up close, which led him to establish his residence in Valdivia and lead a simple life in this cozy corner of the planet”.

Andrew Stephen Ford was Adjunct Professor at the Universidad Austral de Chile, where he also taught English courses for graduate students. In this sense, the Director of Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Gonzalo Saavedra, sent his condolences to those who were his students, his family and friends.

«The Directorate of Graduate Studies of the Austral University of Chile regrets to announce the sudden death of Mr. Andrew Stephen Ford (RIP), who worked as an English teacher for our graduate students. Andy was recognized during his lifetime by his students and colleagues, not only as a committed and excellent teacher, but also as a person of remarkable human quality, coming to forge deep bonds of friendship in a reciprocal way. Over the next few days we will timely report the completion of his funeral ».

During his professional career, Mr. Andrew Ford participated in various training projects, both in institutions in our country and in his native England, highlighting Bretton Halls, Leed University and Sheffield Hallam University. In this last institution he specialized in TESOL.
