Hong Kong ends mandatory mask wearing

28 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, John Lee Ka Chiu, confirmed this Tuesday that masks will no longer be mandatory both outdoors and indoors as of March 1, thus ending one of the measures against The longest-lived coronavirus in the world.

The mask will be mandatory in some venues, such as health facilities, he added during a press conference, in statements collected by the state chain CGTN.

Hong Kong thus ends three years of mandatory face covering, one of the places that has maintained this mandate for the longest time in the world. The special administrative region of Macao also announced this Monday that masks will no longer be mandatory outdoors, although they will remain in public transport and health facilities, the latter may decide at their own discretion.

In early February, the Chinese authorities announced the withdrawal of limits on travel between their territories, another of the toughest measures in the fight against the coronavirus, allowing travel between the mainland, Hong Kong and Macao. In addition, China opened its international borders on February 8.
