July 13 () –

The president of Moldova, Maia Sandu, has assured her Ukrainian counterpart, Volodimir Zelenski, that “for the moment” there is no possibility of an attack from the Moldovan separatist region of Transnistria, located on the border between Moldova and Ukraine. and akin to Russia.

“I assured the president of Ukraine that at the moment there are no risks from Transnistria. I am referring to the information we have, as well as the talks with the representatives of Tiraspol (the capital),” Sandu said.

These words were already formulated by Sandu at the end of June, when he visited Ukraine to meet with Zelensky. On that occasion he added that from Chisinau he was “closely following the development of the situation” in the region.

However, Ukrainian intelligence has warned that the Transnistrian authorities are dedicated to encouraging their male citizens to enlist in the ranks of the Russian Armed Forces, according to the Ukrainian news agency UNIAN.

The region of Transnistria –whose population is mainly Russian and Ukrainian– has gained prominence in recent months due to its link with the Russian government and its important geostrategic position. The Ukrainian authorities have come to denounce possible Russian incursions into western Ukraine from Transnistria.
