Iconic SEGA arcade becomes a building for its rival Bandai Namco

Although several companies will not go to gamescom 2022, Ubisoft confirms attendance

You may remember that, partly due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, SEGA’s arcade business in Japan was seriously crippled and it revealed shortly after that it would end this division. The above involved the sale of one of the most important arcade establishments in Japan and today we know that it passed into the hands of its Japanese rival.

If you have an interest in Japan or arcades, you probably know that an iconic place that encompasses both themes is the neighborhood of Akihabara, Japan. One of its emblems is the Sega GiGO Building 4, which SEGA had to sell last September.

Since then, the building has been undergoing transformation and today the new façade has just been revealed, which shows that its new owners are Bandai Namco, the Japanese company that also makes games, has arcade businesses and is therefore a rival to SEGA. .

Iconic SEGA arcade is now from Bandai Namco

As reported by Twitter user Genki_JP, the building already has a new skin, which is snowy and contrasts with colored lines that characterize the current Bandai Namco logo. The building in general looks a bit different without the SEGA red. According to the details, the establishment will open its doors next month, March 2023.

This may be somewhat sad news for fans who loved the original SEGA building or had a great time there, but the good news is that the image of the arcade building will remain, whether with traditional arcades or claw machines (crane machines), only that now the building is a different color and from Bandai Namco.

In case you missed it: a lot of people fired SEGA arcade in Japan.
