Dotemu has stepped into the role of publisher to celebrate Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge having sold over 1 million copies. The title developed by Tribute Games went on sale a month ago on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam), but managed to reach the aforementioned figure after a week on the market. Since its launch, the game has also been part of the Game Pass catalog.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge has managed to sell more than a million units offering the return of a classic license as it was represented in the 1987 cartoons. The title has also benefited greatly from the nostalgia of classics such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time, a beat ’em up developed by Konami which is also based on the Nickelodeon series. To all this we must add the graphs of pixel artthe gameplay, and the generous lineup of playable characters.

“TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is the game I’ve dreamed of working on ever since I started watching the original cartoons and pouring coins into TMNT arcade machines as a kid,” says Cyrille Imbert, CEO of Dotemu. The executive also highlights the work of the Tribute Games development team, which has been able to “expertly capture the classic excitement of the Turtles’ battles against the Foot Clan in a new experience that feels completely fresh and exciting to play.”

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge campaign can be completed with the four half-shelled heroes, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael, and Splinter, the mutant rat who serves as the Turtles’ teacher and martial arts instructor. Also, for the first time in a franchise game April O’Neil and Casey Jones are playable. Each of the available characters has their own skills and play style. This cast of heroes can be used in a cooperative mode for up to six players.

It is unknown for now if the success of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge will serve for the game to have a sequel or complement. Streets of Rage 4, another Dotemu title that has managed to sell 2.5 million copies, has an expansion. Looking ahead, Dotemu has more games based on classics in the pipeline, including Metal Slug Tactics and the remake of city builder Pharaoh.

Another game that has recently found success is Cuphead, whose The Delicious Last Course expansion has sold more than a million units.
