The Moldovan opposition appeals the appointment of the new prime minister, Dorin Recean

The Socialist Party of Moldova has filed an appeal on Monday before the Constitutional Court against the appointment of Prime Minister Dorin Recean, who was sworn in last week along with his Cabinet.

The Socialists have alleged that when choosing Recean as a candidate to succeed Natalia Gavrilita, who resigned due to the increase in tension with Russia, the president, Maia Sandu, did not hold consultations on the matter with all parliamentary factions, as as stated in the Constitution.

“The president has seriously violated the Constitution because she only pretended to hold talks with the opposition. The parliamentary faction of the communist and socialist bloc was invited to consultations held just 40 minutes before the parliamentary session in which Recean was already scheduled to be elected as candidate”, asserted deputy Maxim Lebedinski.

In this sense, they have indicated that the deputies were “ignored” for practical purposes. “We have 32 deputies, we need time to make a decision and we believe that Sandu should have respected the legislation, the Constitution and Parliament,” he stated, according to information from the newspaper ‘Timpul’.

On February 10, Gabrilita announced her resignation. According to the Magna Carta of Moldova, the resignation of the prime minister entails that of the entire Government en bloc, although the ministers continue to hold their posts on an interim basis until the new Executive is sworn in.
