The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has opted this Saturday to “maintain massive support” for Ukraine to make the “imperialist plan” of Russian President Vladimir Putin “totally fail”.

“We have to maintain massive support (for Ukraine) so that Putin’s imperialist plan fails completely and Ukraine can win,” von der Leyen said during the Munich Security Conference.

Thus, he has maintained that “it is time to accelerate the production of material that Ukraine needs”, including ammunition, while stressing that “the economic security of Ukraine should not be underestimated”.

“It is important that we are very clear about what war is. It is about Putin’s imperialist plans,” he explained, before adding that “it is something completely unacceptable.”

“Not only do we have to explain that we will never accept this imperialist war or that Putin tramples on International Law, which protects us all,” he said.

In this sense, Von der Leyen has stated that the European Union (EU) “will never accept that tanks can be sent across a border to invade a country” and has defended the bloc’s response in the first days of the invasion. , when “very tough” sanctions were imposed against Moscow.

“The democracies immediately understood that this was serious,” argued the president of the European Commission, who added that “from the first day there was unity” among the member states in the face of the Russian invasion, unleashed on February 24, 2022 by Putin’s order.

“I am totally convinced that we will maintain unity and determination, because we fight for our values and our existence,” Von der Leyen has settled.
