US announces death of senior Islamic State official in northeast Syria

The US Army announced this Friday the death of a senior official of the Islamic State jihadist organization in northeastern Syria during an operation in which four US soldiers were injured.

The Central Command of the US Army has specified that the operation took place last night in collaboration with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The jihadist responsible has been identified as Hamza al Homsi, according to the US Army, which attributes the injuries among the military to an explosion that occurred in the middle of the operation.

The four soldiers, in addition to a dog from the Army’s canine unit, are now receiving medical attention in Iraq, with a guarded prognosis.

All of them belonged to a Special Forces commando, according to sources close to the operation to ABC News.
