The leader of the Lebanese Shiite party-militia Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, has threatened the United States and Israel on Thursday that they will not remain “idly by” in the face of the delay in the extraction of gas in the Qana field for the benefit of Lebanon.
Nasrallah has stressed that if action is not taken soon on the gas field in Lebanese waters, Beirut will not be able to allow Israel to continue extracting gas from the Karish field under the maritime agreement the two countries reached in October.
This pact, which delimited the maritime borders between the two countries, allows Lebanon to enjoy the exploitation of the area north of Line 23, including the Qana field, while Israel has control over the Karish field, whose exploitation has already begun. .
“The Americans should know that if they push Lebanon into chaos and the people suffer, we will not stand idly by and watch the chaos. We would rather extend our hand to hurt, even if it leads to choosing war with Israel,” he said. Nasrallah, as reported by the Lebanese news portal Naharnet.
The leader of the Lebanese Shiite party-militia was referring to the deep and prolonged political, economic and social crisis that the country is experiencing, exacerbated by the devaluation of the currency, poverty and the energy crisis.
