The Russian Duma proposes to suspend the agreement between the Kremlin and the WHO

16 Feb. () –

The leader of the Just Russia (SR) party, Sergei Mironov, has asked Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to suspend the cooperation agreement between the government and the World Health Organization (WHO).

“The Just Russia faction (…) in the State Duma points out that in recent years the activities of the WHO have shifted towards politicization and serving the financial interests of pharmaceutical companies,” Mironov said.

The legislator has reported that he “considers it appropriate” to propose the suspension of the cooperation agreement, in line with the measures adopted by the WHO since the war in Ukraine began, as of February 2022.

Thus, Mironov has detailed that the WHO suspended in May the activities carried out by the European Office for the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases based in Moscow.

As he pointed out, this fact “confirms” that the objectives of the organization in protecting the health of the world population “are closely related” to politics.

However, despite the fact that some member states of the WHO suggested in May to move one of the offices of the organization to another European country, none of them have closed nor has Russia expelled the organization, sources from the organization confirmed during the summer. to various media.

“The claims are false,” a spokesperson told USA TODAY, before adding that “WHO continues to operate in the Russian Federation, both through national headquarters and through the Office of Noncommunicable Diseases.”
