The High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, reiterated this Wednesday after a meeting with the tripartite Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Brussels that its accession status to the EU is an “important milestone” for the “European future of the country”.

“(Borrell) urged the Presidency to move forward with the reforms and guarantee the functionality of the country and its institutions, for the benefit of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Borrell said in a statement after the meeting in Brussels, which was attended by assisted by the Serbian Zeljka Cvijanovic, the Croatian Zeljko Komsic and the Bosnian Denis Becirovic.

Likewise, Borrell has rejected “rhetoric and irresponsible actions aimed at undermining the unity and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina”, for which reason “such behavior has no place in the European Union”.

“The EU is counting on Bosnia and Herzegovina to continue supporting the EU in foreign policy positions and decisions, in line with the country’s strategic choice to join the EU”, it indicated, adding, on the other hand, that the bloc European Union will continue to support the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In this sense, he has given the example of the Energy Support Package of 70 million euros to help vulnerable households in the country. Finally, they have also agreed to keep in touch “to advance the path towards the EU of Bosnia and Herzegovina”.
