The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has reported that a magnitude 6 earthquake on the Richter scale has shaken the Philippine island of Masbate on Wednesday, with its epicenter in the municipality of Batuan.
Phivolcs has specified that the epicenter has been located eleven kilometers from Batuan at a depth of about ten kilometers. The agency has reported numerous aftershocks of different magnitudes over the course of several hours, the highest being 5.7.
For its part, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) has reported that the earthquake, of magnitude 6.1 on the Richter scale, occurred around 2:00 a.m. (local time) and was superficial, so it did not there have been victims to lament.
