Roomba maker iRobot to lay off 7% of its employees

Amazon acquires iRobot for $1.7 billion

With this deal, Amazon seeks to deepen its presence in the consumer robotics sector where it already has the Astro device, as well as a series of devices, including thermometers and smart bulbs.

However, both iRobot and Amazon are in a complex moment that they share with technology companies, since for a few months they have been announcing job cuts due to fears of a recession.

In January, Amazon announced the layoff of some 18,000 employees, coupled with the layoffs of Google, Microsoft, Salesforce, IBM, PayPal, among others, which totaled 107,900 layoffs in just that month.

Meanwhile, so far in February, the elimination of 25,164 technology jobs in the United States has been made public, with Dell being the company with the most layoffs (6,650), according to the tracking page, trueup.io.
