Gang dedicated to committing Soat frauds dismantled

The National Police, through the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Interpol (Dijin), in coordination with the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, captured 9 members of health service provider companies and two public officialsin the city of Pereira and in the municipalities of Dosquebradas and La Virginia (Risaralda).

The arrests occurred within the framework of an investigation in which it was possible to establish that 8 people, among them the legal representatives of 4 companies that provide the ambulance service, a doctor who is a shareholder of a clinic, a security guard, an ambulance driver and two public officials engaged in fraud to the Compulsory Traffic Accident Insurance (SOAT) during the years 2019, 2020 and 2021.

During the investigation, it was possible to establish that, through advertisements on social networks, delivery of cards and flyers in the city of Pereira, individuals offered financial remuneration to those who participated in the fraud, posing as alleged traffic accidents: situations such as falls at home, sports injuries, general illnesses, work accidents, among others.

(In 2022, claims to insurers rose 14%).

“With this type of fraud, this criminal organization managed to get them to make payments to the ambulance companies, by transferring patients to care centers for amounts ranging between 276,000 pesos and 300,000 pesos per person, they also made disbursements to clinics that provided health, for amounts from 109 thousand pesos to more than 58 million for medical assistance. It was also possible to show that the SOAT of some vehicles and motorcycles were passed in different situations to be treated for various traffic accidents and that the employees of the emergency provider companies rented the SOAT of vehicles they owned, to carry out the fraud. with the people who were sent by ambulances due to false accidents”, said the Police.

The captured were presented before a Judge of Control of Guarantees and the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation charged them with the crimes of conspiracy to commit a crime, falsification of a private document, own bribery, improper bribery and influence peddling as a public servant.
