12 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Iranian authorities have released journalist Elnaz Mohammadi, who was arrested a week ago, on bail, as reported by the Ham-Mihan outlet on Sunday, whose editorial board the reporter is a member of.
Mohamadi is the sister of Elahe Mohamadi, arrested in September 2022 for reporting the death in custody of the young Kurdish-Iranian Mahsa Amini for allegedly wearing the Islamic headscarf incorrectly.
Amini’s death became the trigger for the most serious popular protests recorded in years in the country. Since its outbreak, according to an NGO, between 400 and 500 protesters have died.
The outlet shared an image of the journalist on its Twitter account while her sister has been behind bars since September 16.
According to the Tehran Journalists Association, ten journalists are still jailed in connection with the protests sparked by Amini’s death.
The great Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the country’s supreme leader, ordered an amnesty for thousands of prisoners last weekend on the occasion of the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, and some of these pardons have fallen to participants in the aforementioned protests.
