Recently Google announced the launch of Bardwhich would basically be the biggest rival of ChatGPT after being implemented in the Bing search system, But a blunder in its marketing materials has resulted in Google’s market value falling by a whopping $100 billion.
The reason for this is more or less easy to understand, and it is that many people have relied on ChatGPT -including Microsoft- to provide true information, something that is not always the case, and that it is often dangerous due to the confidence we see in their delivery of misinformation.
However, Google relies on LaMDA – and by extension, on Bard – for the same thing, but in their marketing material, we see how Bard responds that the James Webb Space Telescope took the first image of a planet outside the solar system., when it really was the Very Large Telescope in 2004.
This probably would not have been a problem if it had not been present in the tool’s marketing material, something that spreads like wildfire through social networks, it ended up affecting investor confidence, thus lowering Google’s market value by $100 billion.
