Netflix has announced this Wednesday that it is ending shared accounts between different households in Spain and will create functions designed to be viewed in a single home. Subscribers will be able to choose the primary location for their account so everyone in their household can use it. Of course, they must pay an extra to add additional accounts for those people with whom they do not live, sources from the platform have explained to Europa Press.
In a statement, the platform has indicated that it has “always” made it easier for people who live under the same roof to share their Netflix account with features such as profiles and multi-screen viewing. “While they’ve been hugely successful, they’ve also caused some confusion about when and how you can share Netflix,” she explained.
Thus, as he emphasizes, there are more than 100 million households that share their accounts, “which reduces our ability to invest in the creation of great stories, told with series and films of the highest quality.”
These new “solutions” will be applied by Netflix from this very Wednesday in Spain, Canada, New Zealand and Portugal with the aim of giving subscribers “greater control over who can access their account.”
NEW SOLUTIONS
Netflix has clarified that traveling subscribers can view the app on their personal devices or sign in on another TV, as has always been the case.
Now anyone who uses an account can move their profile to their own paid account, keeping their personalized recommendations, viewing history, My List, their saved games and much more.
In another case, subscribers of Standard or Premium plans in many countries (Canada, Spain, New Zealand and Portugal included) can add sub-accounts for two people, maximum, with whom they do not live. Each of these sub-accounts will have its own profile, personalized recommendations, username and password, at an additional cost of 5.99 euros per month per person (in Spain).
“We value our subscribers and understand that they have many entertainment options available to them. Each Netflix account is designed for a single household, and subscribers can choose from multiple plans with different features”
In this sense, the platform has slipped that it will continue to improve the new functions based on subscriber comments to continue improving the service in the coming years.
