Biden administration “hijacked by the radical left”

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders drew a contrast between Republicans and what she called a failure of the Biden administration and Democrats when she gave the Republican response Tuesday night to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address.

“The dividing line is no longer between right and left,” Sanders said. “The choice is between normal or crazy.”

He said Democrats want to rule Americans with more control of the government and called for a commitment to the “timeless American idea that government exists not to rule the people but to serve the people.”

Huckabee Sanders, who previously served as White House press secretary during the administration of former President Donald Trump, said the current administration “has been completely hijacked by the radical left.”

In addition, he accused Biden of not doing enough to secure the country’s border, saying that Biden’s “refusal to stand up to China is dangerous and unacceptable.”

Biden said in his speech that he would work with China in ways that advance US and global interests, and that if China threatens US sovereignty, “we will act to protect our country.”

Sanders, 40, delivered the speech less than a month after being sworn in as Arkansas’ first female governor. The daughter of former Governor Mike Huckabee, she is also the first from Arkansas to give the State of the Union response to a president since Bill Clinton took office as governor in 1985.

His speech comes as a 2024 Republican field begins to form to challenge Trump, 76, as he seeks the White House for a third time. The field includes former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, who served as a UN ambassador under Trump and is expected to launch her candidacy next week.
