Seven people die in a fire in a building in the city of Sevastopol, on the Crimean peninsula

At least seven people have died this Thursday due to a fire unleashed in a building that housed construction workers in the city of Sevastopol, located on the Crimean peninsula, annexed by Russia in 2014, as confirmed by emergency services. .

Sources from the local ambulance service have indicated in statements to the Russian news agency Interfax that two other people have been hospitalized with burns of varying degrees, so it is not ruled out that the death toll may increase in the coming hours.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations has detailed that the fire has been registered in a two-story module on Nefyanaya street and has assured that the flames have already been extinguished, without the authorities having ruled on the possible causes for the moment.

Sevastopol is home to the main base for Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, which annexed the Crimean peninsula in 2014, a move not internationally recognized. Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a full-scale invasion of the country on February 24, 2022.
