Australia's Prime Minister aspires to make his country a superpower in the global energy transition

July 12 () –

Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Tuesday that Australia has a unique opportunity to become a renewables superpower by transforming the country’s aging coal-dominated power grid, helping its regional allies move to renewables. net zero emissions and taking advantage of the green investment boom.

Australia is one of the countries with the highest growth in renewable energy, as well as some of the best deposits of critical minerals, facts that Albanese will use this Tuesday in his first major speech on climate change as prime minister, signaling his intention to share his “technology, resources and experience with countries like India and Indonesia”, as reported by ‘The Sydney Morning Herald’.

“Australia is ready to do its part,” he will tell the Sydney Energy Forum. “Together, we can ensure better access to affordable, reliable and secure clean energy across the Indo-Pacific, as we move towards a world of grid zero,” added Albanese.

The forum is part of the Quad partnership between Japan, the United States, India and Australia, where Albanese will meet with senior officials from these nations, as well as Indonesia, which is specially included as a regional partner.

Indo-Pacific nations must build six times the current amount of renewable energy installed across the region and triple the investment going into clean technologies to reach net greenhouse gases by 2050.

China dominates the world’s supply of critical minerals needed for renewable energy and clean technologies.

Albanese will say that Australia can grow new industries along with global energy security by developing and exporting its abundant reserves of rare earths, aluminium, lithium, copper, cobalt and nickel.
