The Government of Somalia has announced this Sunday that 136 militants of the jihadist organization Al Shabaab have died during the last two days of military operations in the country, within the framework of the “total war” declared by the president, Hasan Sheikh Mohamud, against the terrorist group.
The operations have been concentrated in the Lower Shabelle region and among the dead jihadists there would be prominent leaders of the organization such as its head of coastal operations, Salman Dheere, or the regional commander Macalin Hashi.
At least 98 jihadists were reportedly injured in these operations, Somalia’s Deputy Minister of Information, Abrahman Yusuf al Addaala, reported in comments collected by the Hiraan on Line portal.
To this we must add that the Somali president is finalizing an announcement in which he will announce the exact amount of money seized from the jihadist organization after the economic offensive launched by the Government against its sources of financing and hidden accounts both in the country and abroad.
The total amount seized is expected to be in the “millions of dollars.” It should be remembered that the Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, recently reported the closure of around 250 connected accounts in four banks in the country and 70 provisional accounts activated by mobile phones that Al Shabaab militias used solely to move money.
