The new demonstration this Saturday against the judicial reform proposed by the Government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began with a minute’s silence for the victims of the latest attacks in East Jerusalem.
“Last night’s murderous attack in Jerusalem breaks our hearts. We share the pain and grief of the families of those killed and we wish a speedy recovery to the wounded,” the organizers said in a statement collected by ‘The Jerusalem Post’.
“Tonight there will be a demonstration on Kaplan Street and in other parts of the country with a special format. They will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a minute of silence,” they explained.
Some 30,000 people have participated in the Tel Aviv demonstration, according to a police estimate cited by Israeli television Channel 12, far from the more than 100,000 people who attended last Saturday. “We do not agree on a nation without legal guarantees,” the attendees have chanted.
After the end of the interventions of the organizers, several artists have performed quiet songs. “We want to find a way to honor and express our respect. The entire political spectrum is represented here,” said one of the organizers.
The opposition leader, Yair Lapid, has announced that he will not finally attend the Haifa demonstration, as planned, out of respect for the victims of the attacks.
