Tanzania calls for calm after an alert from the US Embassy about a possible attack in the capital

Jan. 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Tanzanian Police have called for calm to the population after a terrorist alert issued by the US Embassy in the African country about a possible attack in the capital, Dar es Salaam.

“Tanzania is free of any act of terrorism and the security of the country is guaranteed,” police spokesman David Misime said in a statement collected by the newspaper ‘The Citizen’.

The US alert, issued last Wednesday, warned that “places frequented by US citizens and other Westerners in Dar es Salaam and other parts of Tanzania “continue to be attractive targets for terrorists planning to carry out attacks.”

“Terrorist groups could attack with little or no warning, targeting hotels, embassies, restaurants, shopping malls and markets, police stations, places of worship, and other places frequented by Westerners,” the US Embassy warned on its website.
