Jan. 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Officials from Iran and Saudi Arabia will meet again in the near future in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, to approach new positions after the resumption of their diplomatic relations at the beginning of the year, as confirmed by the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohamed Shia al Sudani.
In an interview with France 24, Al Sudani confirmed that “in the coming weeks a new meeting will be organized in Baghdad”, in what would be the sixth meeting between the two regional enemies.
Both countries held several rounds of talks last year with the aim of normalizing their relations and avoiding disputes.
Tehran and Riyadh, it should be remembered, severed their diplomatic relations in 2016 after an attack on Saudi missions in Iran at the hands of protesters who demanded to stop the execution of the Shiite cleric Nimr al Nimr.
The Iranian Foreign Minister, Hosein Amirabdolahian, came to venture in mid-January the possibility of reopening the embassies of both countries.
