They value the role of managers in transferring university knowledge to society

On the morning of Wednesday, July 6, the men and women technology managers of different units of the University of Concepción, as part of the effort of the Department of Development and Innovation, through its Office of Transfer and Licensing (OTL), to unify and standardize processes.

In dependencies of the Vice President for Research and Developmenta presentation was given by the executive director of the OTL UdeC, Andrea Catalan Wolves and Claudio Rojas González, technological manager of the same unit, in which they spoke about the internal protocols of the process of scouting o Exploration of opportunities and capacities carried out by the OTL.

“This meeting was the kick-off for the formation of this network, because we want the technology managers who are at the peripheral points of the OTL to be able to demonstrate this complex chain of work and how they are part of the transfer process,” he commented. Andrea Catalan.

Subsequently, a team effort was developed in which the managers worked on two large missions, the first to identify and standardize procedures and protocols in the survey of capacities and technologies or new knowledge, secondly, to unify minimum criteria to be addressed for the Development of new catalogs.

As part of a path of articulation at the institutional level of technological management capabilities, Nelson Rojas, executive director of the Science 2030 Program which brings together six faculties. “Technology managers today carry out important work for the strategic axis of R+D+i+e linkthey are the ones who are directly related to researchers, identify the potential of technologies that allow the development of relevant solutions for society, and on the other hand identify in companies or the public sector what are the challenges that can be addressed from the capacities that exist in the University Rojas detailed.

The other great pillar of work was in the observation of the communication work carried out by the Managers, with the aim of creating a new procedure for disseminating capabilities, unified and with shared criteria.

“We must bear in mind that we serve a very active and leading academic community in the field of transferring the knowledge they generate through new products, processes or services that contribute to improving human well-being in its different dimensions,” he stressed. Jorge Carpinelli Pavisich, Director of Development and Innovation of the Vice President for Research and Development. “This is today a fundamental pillar in university work and, therefore, we must spare no effort in placing and coordinating all our professional skills, talents and platforms towards that goal.”

This meeting is framed regular work days that will allow the sharing of good practices, the identification of success stories and the standardization of procedures and protocols. “We seek to recognize and value the tremendous work and commitment of each actor in the chain that ends in a successful licensing”, commented Andrea Catalán.
