The government of the Pakistani province of Sindh will launch its first women-only bus in the metropolis of Karachi on February 1, authorities announced on Friday.
“Sindh’s Government Department of Transport is going to start Pakistan’s first bus service exclusively for women and girls,” the information minister of the province, Sharjeel Inaam Memon, announced on his Twitter account.
This decision is intended to “promote gender equality and improve the travel experience of working women” in the country.
The new “pink line” will be the first urban and permanent route after a similar initiative, of an interprovincial and punctual nature, in Gilgit-Baltistan, at the end of the year.
