The Israeli Army’s air defense system intercepted two projectiles launched from the Gaza Strip on Thursday night, given the rise in tensions after the death of nine Palestinians in clashes with Israeli forces during a raid on a camp refugees in the West Bank city of Jenin.
The air alert has sounded in the city of Ashkelon, in southern Israel, as well as in the towns of Zikim and Karmia, as reported by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) through its profile on the social network Twitter.
However, the IDF has not detailed whether there were any injuries or damage after the launch, which occurred after Islamic Jihad and Hamas indicated that Israel “will pay the price” for the “massacre”, assuring that they would respond to the attack ” early”.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed this morning the death of at least nine people in a raid on a refugee camp in Jenin, one of the fatalities being a civilian, after which the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, has declared three days of mourning, so the Palestinian flags will fly at half mast during this period. The announcement came shortly after Al Fatá called a day of general strike in the West Bank and East Jerusalem to condemn the Israeli operation.
On the other hand, the Palestinian permanent representative to the United Nations, Riyad Mansur, has asked the Presidency of the United Nations Security Council for an urgent meeting to discuss the escalation of tensions in the region.
