Meta to reinstate former US President Donald Trump’s personal Facebook account after a two-year suspension imposed after the insurrection on January 6 at the Capitol.
The company said in a blog post Wednesday that it will add “new safeguards” to ensure that no “repeat infringers” violate its rules.
“In the event Mr. Trump posts further infringing content, the content will be removed and he will be suspended for anywhere from one month to two years, depending on the severity of the infringement,” Nick Clegg, Meta’s vice president of global affairs, wrote.
Trump, in a post on his own social network, Truth Social, criticized Facebook’s decision to suspend his account.
“Facebook, which has lost billions of dollars in value since deleting its favorite president, me, has just announced that it will reinstate my account. Something like this can never happen again to a sitting president, or to anyone else who does not deserve retribution,” he wrote.
Trump was suspended on January 7, one day after the storming the capitol in 2021. Other social networks also expelled him from their platforms, although recently your Twitter account was restored after Elon Musk took control of the company. He has not tweeted.
Meta said Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts will be reinstated in the coming weeks.
