The president of Senegal and the African Union (AU), Macky Sall, has made a new call for a reduction in tensions and to achieve “a peace agreement” that ends the war between Russia and Ukraine to “avoid suffering” all over the world.
“I invite the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, the president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, and all the heads of state of the countries involved in this crisis, to favor the reduction of tensions for a peace agreement that allows the world to avoid the suffering that we live on the planet”, he said.
Sall, who made these statements in the framework of a speech for the celebration of the Muslim holiday of Eid al Adha, has defended that “it is necessary to do everything possible and mobilize to stop the war in Ukraine”, according to the agency Senegalese state news agency, APS.
Sall met with Putin in Moscow in June, after which he discussed in a call with Zelensky the situation arising from the war and its impact on the food supply chain, which is having particularly harsh repercussions in developing countries. .
Senegal currently holds the presidency of the African Union and was one of the countries invited to the G7 summit (the group of the seven most industrialized countries in the world) held in Germany at the end of June.
