The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, expressed on Wednesday to his Paraguayan counterpart, Mario Abdo Benítez, his interest in addressing a message to the presidents of the member countries of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), during the next summit.
“Zelenskyy asked Mario Abdo Benítez, in his capacity as president pro tempore of Mercosur, for a virtual participation space within the Summit of Mercosur Heads of State that will take place next Thursday, July 21, at the facilities of the Convention Center of the Conmebol, in Luque,” said the notice of the Paraguayan presidency.
The objective of the Ukrainian president – he expanded the text – consists of “sending a message to the member countries of the bloc about the situation that his country is experiencing due to the war with Russia.”
The Paraguayan president stated that he will consult with his peers since decisions are made by consensus,” according to the statement.
In addition to Abdo, his Foreign Minister Julio César Arriola participated in the call.
The presidency reported that Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for the support for his country, during the Russian invasionand that the leaders also discussed bilateral issues.
