At least 120 people have been injured as a result of an earthquake of magnitude 5.4 on the Richter scale that has shaken the Iranian city of Khoi, located in the province of West Azerbaijan on Wednesday.
The director general of the provincial Emergency Management Agency, Abbas Jafari, has reported that all relief services are on high alert and has guaranteed their full readiness to care for the injured and affected.
According to the information provided by the emergency services, there have been no fatalities, although nearly two hundred homes have suffered extensive damage, according to the Tasnim news agency.
After the strong earthquake, at least five other aftershocks have been registered, the largest of which amounts to magnitude 4.1. Previously, another aftershock, also of magnitude 3.6, has been recorded.
On the other hand, regarding the cold weather conditions that plague the area, Jafari has detailed that the competent authorities will meet to address the situation and will take “the necessary decisions” in accordance with the report made by the Red Crescent.
