The Somali government announced this Saturday the closure of 250 bank accounts and 70 provisional mobile phone payment accounts associated with the jihadist organization Al Shabaab.
“We are still conducting further investigations into the rest of the money,” Somali Deputy Information Minister Abdirramán Adala told the official Somali news agency SONNA.
This operation has been developed, according to the vice minister, thanks to the collaboration of 3,000 Somali citizens, some of them extorted by the organization.
“The Ministers urged the Somali people to collaborate with security agencies and report any militia they find so that the terrorists are brought to justice,” the authorities concluded in their appearance.
The operation takes place within the framework of the total war declared by the country’s president, Hasan Sheikh Mohamud, against the jihadist organization, one of the most dangerous on the African continent and responsible for some of the bloodiest attacks in the history of Somalia.
