“The central task of the diplomatic sector is to serve the sustainable and self-sufficient national development and ensuring national interests at the highest possible level,” Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said in the industry teleconference on 10 January.
In his address, he said that foreign relations with world powers and most key partners were widely promoted in 2022, as seen in nearly 70 high-level diplomatic activities by Party and state leaders, including 14 visits by Vietnamese leaders to 17 countries, participation in five multilateral conferences, hundreds of bilateral meetings with world leaders, and trips to Vietnam by 19 foreign leaders.
One of the highlights of the sector last year was the preparation of the official visit to China by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, and the good advice given so that Vietnam had an adequate response to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, he noted. .

Diplomatic activities in 2022 were substantive and increasingly stable and sustainable, the government leader said, applauding the encouraging results of multilateral, vaccine and economic diplomacy, the protection and care of Vietnamese abroad, along with the demarcation of borders and the planting of markers.

Premier Chinh called on the diplomatic sector and relevant agencies to take up the tasks of firmly maintaining peace, stability, independence, sovereignty and socio-political stability; continue to develop relations with partners in a substantive, stable and sustainable manner; and enhance the “strategic” character of ties with neighboring and world powers, as well as strategic and integral partners.
Likewise, it required authorities and sectors at all levels to seek new opportunities, markets and areas; maximize opportunities in the international environment and external resources; and strongly play the role of economic diplomacy to expand and diversify export markets.

The prime minister also called for greater coordination between the Party, the State, the National Assembly and people-to-people diplomacy, adding that the Foreign Ministry should strengthen ties with other forces involved in diplomatic activities, especially provinces with borders. land and sea, to protect the Homeland soon and from afar.
