Jan. 13 () –

Alstom has signed a new contract for the manufacture, supply and commissioning of ten new trains of the Metropolis range for line 1 of the Santo Domingo metro, in the Dominican Republic, which will be manufactured at the Alstom industrial center in Santa Perpètua ( Barcelona).

The new units, as well as the on-board signaling systems of the 10 trains that Alstom will also supply, will make it possible to expand the capacity of this line, one of the main mobility arteries of the city, which has 16 stations along 14, 5 kilometers.

The trains, made up of three cars each, will be able to operate in multiple units, coupled with each other or with the trains that are already in operation, which will make it possible to adapt the capacity to passenger demand, as reported by the Spanish subsidiary of the French company in a statement.

With this new order, Metro de Santo Domingo will increase its fleet of Metropolis trains to 64 units, all of them manufactured by Alstom Spain in Barcelona. These trains will have similar appearance, functionality, and features as the Metropolis trains that currently operate in the Santo Domingo Metro, such as wide doors, wide aisles, and a low floor, for optimum passenger flow.

They will also have additional features and technological advances to enhance the passenger experience and optimize operation and availability, including LED lighting in the passenger area, enhancements to the passenger information and alert system.

As an additional feature, these new trains will have a new design of the driver’s desk, which will be integrated with the other elements of the cabin, as well as a state-of-the-art display unit for the driver.
