( Spanish) — The National Action (PAN), the Democratic Revolution (PRD) and Institutional Revolutionary (PRI) parties announced Thursday that they will go together to this year’s elections in the State of Mexico and in Coahuila, as well as in the presidential and the Headquarters of Government in Mexico City in 2024.
Under the name Va por México, this coalition forms the main opposition legislative and electoral coalition in the country.
“In the same way as the candidates of the Va por México coalition were determined in 2021 and 2022, it was agreed that for the 2023 electoral process in the State of Mexico and Coahuila, the Institutional Revolutionary Party will be responsible for carrying out the election process. definition of the candidacies. It will do so under its statutory democratic rules, guaranteeing the possibility of participating in the selection processes to all interested parties, regardless of their partisan affiliation,” said Marko Cortés, national leader of the PAN, at a press conference on Thursday.
Cortés specified that, in agreement with the PRI and the PRD, the PAN will be in charge of carrying out the definition processes of the presidential candidacies and of the Head of Government of Mexico City in 2024.

In this process, Cortés said, “the PAN is committed to always putting the interest of the country first.”
For his part, the national president of the PRI, Alejandro Moreno, assured that all the parties that make up this coalition are committed to giving everything to win this year’s elections.
The Va por México alliance emerged in 2021 as a legislative coalition that seeks from the Chamber of Deputies to face the reforms with which they disagree, and which are promoted by the majority party in Congress —Morena— and the president of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
The announcement comes after last September the leaders of the three parties reported on the temporary suspension of the coalition, after several members of the PRI —among them Moreno— supported the government’s initiative to extend the participation of the Armed Forces in public security tasks until 2028.
A week ago, the ruling Morena party, founded by López Obrador, presented the former Secretary of Public Education Delfina Gómez as its “sole candidate” for the government of the state of Mexico in 2023.
This Thursday, the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico confirmed that it will seek to build an alliance with Morena and the Labor Party (PT) in the 2023 elections in the State of Mexico.
Said entity, among the 32 that make up the country, registers the largest number of people on the Electoral Nominal List, with almost 12.6 million voters, according to official data.
Coahuila, in northern Mexico, is the other entity in electoral dispute in 2023. Like the State of Mexico, they are the only two currently governed by the PRI.
