Republicans in the US House of Representatives launched their promised investigation into President Joe Biden and his family on Wednesday, using the power of their majority to demand information from the Treasury Department and former Twitter executives, while paving the way for public hearings. .
“Now that the Democrats do not have one-party control in Washington, there will be oversight and accountability,” Rep. James Comer, a Republican, head of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said in a statement.
The commission sent a series of letters to the Treasury Department requesting information about financial transactions by members of the Biden family that were reported as suspicious. Such reports are routine and by themselves are not evidence of illegality. It is common for large transactions to be reported to the government.
The Republicans also requested testimony from several former Twitter executives who were involved in the company’s handling of an October 2020 New York Post story about Hunter Biden, the president’s youngest son. Republicans maintain that the reporting was withheld for political reasons.

Republican investigations into the Biden family are nothing new. Republicans have been examining messages and financial transactions found in a laptop that belonged to Hunter Biden, but now the Republicans, having a majority in the House, have the power to issue subpoenas and, therefore, compel witnesses to testify and conduct a more vigorous investigation.
