The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, has asserted this Wednesday that the “rhetoric of open doors” manifested on several occasions by the Atlantic Alliance “is not enough” for kyiv, which expects more concrete steps.

“Simply supporting Ukraine in the form of rhetoric about open doors is not enough. It is not enough to motivate our state and, to be more specific, it is not enough to motivate our soldiers,” Zelensky said.

On this point, the Ukrainian president has alluded to the steps taken by the European Union –which in June granted Ukraine the status of candidate for membership of the bloc– and has stressed that these types of decisions do motivate the country in their fight against Russia, collects UNIAN.

“We expect much stronger steps. We expect more than an open door. Things like the candidacy for the European Union are motivating,” said Zelenski, who has warned that Ukraine cannot be “fed with promises.”

The discussion on Ukraine’s accession to the Atlantic Alliance has been reactivated with more force than ever since the outbreak of the war, started by Russia at the end of February. Some member states of the block have been in favor of the annexation of kyiv.
