The Vice President of Colombia, Francia Márquez, denounced an attempted attack against her with explosives that were found by her security scheme.
In his Twitter profile, Márquez denounced that the explosives were found on the road that leads to his family residence -about 7 kilometers from it- in the village of Yolombó, in Suarez, Cauca, in the southwest of the country.
After the report, an anti-explosive team from the Colombian Police went to the place and detonated the charge in a controlled manner.
The police commander of Cauca Gustavo Martínez, pointed out that “through a human source and intelligence work, it was possible to locate an explosive device in the village of Yolombó, Suárez, Cauca, which was successfully deactivated by the explosives technical group of the investigation section of this department and in this way we managed to avoid affecting the life of the community”.
The representation in Colombia before the United Nations rejected the attempted attack against the vice president. “We condemn the attempt against the life of the Vice President of the Republic Francia Márquez Mina and the endangerment of her family, those around her and the inhabitants of Yorombó, Cauca,” they wrote on Twitter.
After his complaint, Márquez assured that “he will not stop working, day after day, until he achieves the Total Peace that Colombia dreams of and needs.”
“We will not give up until in each territory it is possible to live in true harmony,” he added.
In the convulsed department of Cauca, where Márquez is from, different illegal groups operate, such as the FARC dissidents and the National Liberation Army (ELN). So far the authorities have not named any of the actors responsible for the attempted attack.
Márquez has suffered multiple attacks since he became known as a social and Afro-descendant leader, including an attack with a grenade in 2019.
