China suspends short-term visas for South Koreans due to travel restrictions due to COVID-19 outbreak

10 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Chinese authorities have suspended the issuance of short-term visas for South Koreans who wish to visit the country, in reaction to similar measures imposed against Chinese travelers.

The Chinese Embassy in South Korea has reported on Tuesday that it will suspend visas, whether for work, leisure or health reasons, alleging that this measure has been caused by Seoul’s entry restrictions on Chinese citizens.

“In accordance with Chinese national instructions, the Chinese Embassy and Consulate in South Korea will suspend the issuance of short-term visas for visits to China by Korean citizens, including visits, trade, tourism, medical care and circumstances personal in general,” reads the statement.

The office added that what was described “above will be adjusted depending on the situation in which Korea lifts its discriminatory entry restrictions against China.”

Before the end of the year, South Korea indicated that it would require a PCR test or a negative COVID-19 antigen test for travelers from China, joining the sanctions imposed by other countries, both European and Asian.
