The dismembered bodies of five men were found Monday in the vicinity of a town north of the tourist center of Acapulco, on the Pacific coast.
The Attorney General of the southern state of Guerrero said in a statement that the dismembered bodies were found under a bridge in the town of San Martín El Jovero in the municipality of Acapulco.
The first investigations suggest that organized crime would be involved in the act, indicated the State Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities did not provide details, but local media reported that the dismembered corpses were left in plastic bags.
Acapulco has been ravaged by the bloody violence of drug gangs for more than 15 years.
In the town of Xaltianguis, north of the resort, two other men were murdered, the Prosecutor’s Office reported on Monday. Xaltianguis has been contested by rival gangs, some of which are believed to have ties to drug cartels.
In 2019, a heavily armed group expelled a rival gang from Xaltianguis by exploding a vehicle with gas cylinders inside and dismembering the corpse of one of the two fallen enemies.
