The Escazú Agreement is presented at the regional seminar on climate change for the parliaments of Latin America and the Caribbean

More than 65 participants from 12 countries gathered in Montevideo, Uruguay, from June 28 to 30, 2022 to celebrate the regional seminar on climate change for the parliaments of Latin America and the Caribbean. The seminar was jointly organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Parliament of Uruguay.

The seminar provided a space for an urgent inter-parliamentary dialogue on how to address climate change in the region, and consisted of various expert presentations and plenary discussions.

In the session “Prioritizing equitable climate action: promoting public participation and social inclusion”, ECLAC, in its capacity as Secretariat of the Escazú Agreement, presented the importance of the Agreement to promote climate governance in Latin America and the Caribbean. Emphasis was placed on leaving no one behind in the climate crisis and ensuring that the environmental rights of all people are respected. Parliamentarians were also encouraged to support the ratification and implementation of this agreement in their respective countries.
