AMLO will discuss the issue of trade in transgenic corn with Joe Biden

At the end of 2020, Mexico published a decree to progressively prohibit the entry of transgenic corn from the neighboring nation in the coming years, raising alarm in the United States due to the possible repercussions of the measure for its grain producers.

“It is an issue that will be discussed at the bilateral meeting,” the president said at a press conference, referring to a meeting he will hold with Biden next week in the framework of the North American Leaders Summit to be held in the Mexican capital.

In December, the Mexican presidency assured that it agreed with the United States to continue talks on the dispute over corn and that it hoped to “consolidate” an agreement in January that would give legal certainty to the parties.

Next Monday, January 9, President Biden will be received at the National Palace to have a meeting with his Mexican counterpart. The day after, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will join the two heads of state for a joint media address in the afternoon.
